Ragdoll Kitten – Checklist
It is wise to be well prepared before you bring your new Ragdoll Kitten into your home for the first time. You’ll need to plan ahead and keep a few things in mind when you start setting in your new kitten.
Checklist of things to buy:
1. Kitten Food
Get a selection of dry biscuits, can and sachet food specifically for kittens. They are just developing their taste buds and can be quite fussy eaters in the first few weeks of solids. You’ll find out very quickly which food is your cat’s cup of tea.
It is also advisable to get some special kitten milk especially if your kitten was still feeding when you bought it. Be careful not to feed it normal milk as it contains lactose and lacks important ingredients added to the kitten formula.

2. Food/Water Bowls
There is a variety of bowls available and they are generally made out of plastic, metal or ceramic. It’s wise to choose a shallow, sturdy bowl for your kitten so it doesn’t get knocked over easily and it’s not too difficult for the cat to reach the water/food.
3. Litter Tray & Cat Litter
These days there is a vast amount of choices when it comes to litter trays starting with simple plastic ones to fully automated systems. Ask your breeder what litter tray your new kitten or cat has been using to make the transition easier initially. You can pick up a cheap plastic litter tray from K-Mart or Spotlight for a few dollars. The same applies to the cat litter; discuss with the breeder or previous owner which sort they’ve trained the kitten/cat on. The crystal type litter seems easier to clean and absorbs the runny bits quite well. Read more about cat litter options.
4. Toys
Your ragdoll kitten is quite happy to be entertained with a few mouse shaped toys, balls but is also very exited about scrunched up tissue paper and empty toilet rolls. A guide and list of some cat toys.
5. Scratching Posts
Ragdoll Kittens love scratching and need to scratch to keep their claws in shape. It is therefore wise to get a scratching post straight away and train it to use it. Otherwise your lounge and carpet become quick substitutes. Read more about scratching posts and view some products.
6. Cat Bed
It is important for a cat to have a soft & clean surface to rest on. You can choose anywhere between a simple soft cushioned mat or a fancy purpose bed built for cats. The sky is the limit to your imagination. List of available cat beds.
7. Cat Carrier
To make the first car trip home safe and comfortable for your kitten as well as being prepared for trips to the vet, it is wise to buy a cat carrier. Choose a carrier that you can use even when your cat grows up. Remember that your ragdoll kitten grows into a 5-9kg cat. Read on about the different types of cat carriers.
8. Grooming Supplies
Ragdoll Kittens don’t shed much or any fur; however they will need to be brushed regularly when they are a little bit older. Get your kitten used to brushing it with a suitable soft hair brush during its playing stage as kitten.
